Who is this April and what's her story anyway?

Let's just start somewhere in the middle, shall we…..

A while back after having my second of three kids, I came down with an autoimmune dysfunction. I was in the hospital every few weeks getting epinephrine shots. I had no idea why and my doctor's solution was to “take an ativan and go home and have a few drinks”. Well…… as you can imagine that did NOT fix anything. After months and another child, my family moved to Ventura California!  Here is where my true yoga and good health journey started. I met a dear friend and her husband, Rebekha and Khohala Wolf of Peak Harmonic and they helped me heal what I believe was “the problem with my gut”. I went from ‘being asleep' as I like to call it; not caring for my health and drinking more than I should have, to educating myself intensively in Yoga, paying attention to what I put into my body and practicing the tools I was learning to find a deeper connection with myself, and the true meaning of Iife. I found that being conscious and ‘waking the hell up’, I could be in control of my life, face my shadow; dark and light and that the new choices I was making were giving me the strength to create the life I always wanted.

Today I live in Camarillo, Ca with my boyfriend, my elderly mom and 3 kids. I currently offer group classes, Yoga Therapy to teens and young adults, cupping hyperbaric and frequency therapy and lead Yoga certification training’s. I honestly can say that the path it took me to get here was not always easy but I am living a life of gratitude and being of service in my community and beyond is truly the greatest thing.

As Nelson Mandala says “I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it.”

I would love to connect with you and hear about your life, I’d love to share with you the many tools that you can use to take control of your own body and spirit and how you too can live a life you have been dreaming of.

Namaste, April

April has acquired a thorough knowledge of Western anatomy, human physiology, and the Eastern energetics of the practice, of yoga learning how to intertwine these complementary concepts together to maximize the therapeutic effects. She has been trained to understand the body and work synergistically with other healthcare practitioners to help provide a well-rounded treatment plan. Through an advanced yoga teacher training program April has efficiently and effectively been applying her extensive knowledge of the body to the practice of yoga with her students.

April’s training of Yoga for athletes also has been helpful when working with athletes of all sports, using her knowledge of anatomy and biomechanics as it relates to athletes as well as the psychological implications of a regular yoga practice, particularly examining the ongoing process of pushing your body to the brink and staying healthy in the process.

Accompanying her Yoga training she has also trained extensively in aerial yoga to use the hammock as a prop for yoga asanas and postures that may not be accessible to an individual and to help April create individualized yoga programs, the hammock is useful for all levels of yoga and all styles of yoga, from gentle therapeutic to power or vinyasa flow. To add to her yoga prescriptions April has trained in Myofascial cupping therapy. Myofascial Cupping is the therapeutic application of cups designed to release and mobilize soft tissue restrictions, increase blood flow, and facilitate lymphatic movement. April teaches local classes as well as offers corporate classes, classes for sports teams or individual private classes  in Ventura County and LA County, CA and offers 200hr and 500hr Teacher trainings through her own school, “April Geary School of Yoga”.

Ashley Konzmann,

E-RYT 200 hr

I began practicing yoga in 2004 as a young teenager in my bedroom. My family had just moved to Somis and yoga became a way for me to feel connected to my mind and body while I was trying to find roots in my new environment. I initially learned poses from books and practiced them daily. As soon as I could drive, I began attending yoga classes at a local gym in Camarillo.

I first shared my love of yoga as a teacher while in college at UCSB during a performative arts class. My peers were so encouraging and even told me I should be a yoga teacher. That experience planted something in me that stuck in the back of my mind for the next 15 years. Between that time and now, I have led groups through asanas and breath work in California, Germany, Nepal, and India.

After 20 years of self-teaching, practicing on my own and sharing my knowledge here and there, I finally completed an official yoga teacher training. Yoga has been a grounding thread in my life that has helped me work through depression, loss, grief, and has accompanied me through the good times as well.

I want others to experience yoga and feel empowered too. I am committed to making yoga accessible for everyone, regardless of age, ability, or background. I am someone who responds to compassion, and that is the lens through which I want to work with students on their journey to physical, mental, and emotional well-being.

When not on the mat, I enjoy life with my husband, surfing, ceramics, and hold an MFA in Sculpture. I taught high school Art for 4 years before becoming pregnant with my son. My love for learning fuels my continued exploration of new ways to deepen my own practice and share the transformative power of yoga with others.
